Gerber helps deliver $25,000 in scholarships for Montco. families
NARBERTH, April 15 – State Rep. Mike Gerber, D-Montgomery, today presented $25,000 in scholarship checks to Montgomery County families whose children attend five local schools.
The scholarships were made possible through Aetna and the Bravo Foundation, which made corporate donations to the schools through the state Education Improvement Tax Credit program. The EITC program gives businesses tax credits for contributions to qualified scholarship, educational improvement and pre-K scholarship organizations.
Gerber helped by matching up Aetna and Bravo with Conshohocken Catholic, St. Philip Neri of Lafayette Hill, St. Margaret of Narberth, Congregation Or Ami of Lafayette Hill, and Adath Israel of Lower Merion. Each of the five schools will receive $5,000 in scholarship money for children and families who need support. The check presentation was held at St. Margaret's School.
"It's a pleasure to see this public/private partnership directly benefiting the children of our community," Gerber said. "Each of these scholarships is an investment in our children and the future of Pennsylvania, and I look forward to continuing my efforts to find more ways to help our local schools."
Gerber has been a champion for Head Start and other early childhood education programs that promote high-quality pre-kindergarten, full-day kindergarten and smaller class sizes in early grades. He also helped deliver Pennsylvania’s Classrooms for the Future program that has modernized high school education by putting laptops in the classroom.
