Gerber: Whitemarsh Elementary receives $5,000

for new multimedia technology

WHITEMARSH, April 18 – Rep. Mike Gerber, D-Montgomery, today visited Whitemarsh Elementary School to deliver a $5,000 state grant to help the school purchase wireless equipment and speakers to accompany each classroom’s digital blackboard.

According to the school's principal, Donna Drizin, this new equipment will help Whitemarsh Elementary teachers make better use of the existing digital blackboard technology.

"With three young kids of my own, I know how important it is to make technology available in early grades," Gerber said. "That's why I am so pleased I could help Whitemarsh Elementary purchase this new multimedia equipment for its students."

Gerber has been a leading advocate locally and in Harrisburg for early childhood education programs that promote high-quality pre-kindergarten, full-day kindergarten and smaller class sizes in early grades. He also helped deliver Pennsylvania’s Classrooms for the Future program that has modernized high school education by putting laptops in classrooms across the state.

With Gerber's efforts , Plymouth Whitemarsh High School was one of the state's first participants in the Classrooms for the Future program.

Gerber secured this grant for Whitemarsh Elementary from the state Department of Community and Economic Development.
