Gerber presents Lower Merion with $15,000 for polo field renovations

LOWER MERION, April 25 – On Monday state Rep. Mike Gerber, D-Montgomery, delivered a $15,000 grant to Lower Merion Township to help renovate its polo field in order to better accommodate local youth athletic programs.

Lower Merion and Haverford townships, which share the field, are undertaking a project that will allow the polo field's four separate athletic fields – including two multi-purpose fields, one softball field and one full-size baseball field -- to be used at the same time.

Currently, the four athletic fields overlap and cannot be used simultaneously due to its inefficient design.

Gerber said he was made aware of the need for financial assistance by former Lower Merion commissioner and baseball dad, Alan Kessler.

"Alan’s term in office might have ended a while ago, but his care for the community continues," Gerber said. "I grew up playing sports and know how important facilities like this are to the kids and to a community."
