Area lawmakers react to passage of table games legislation
HARRISBURG, Dec. 16 – State Reps. Mike Gerber, Rick Taylor, Matt Bradford and Tim Briggs, all D-Montgomery, each voted favorably to pass legislation (S.B. 711) that would allow table games at the state's 14 licensed slots-gaming facilities, and released the following statements:
"I hope the Senate responds swiftly so we can complete this final stage of the state budget and ensure funding is available for the hospitals, cultural assets and educational institutions integral to our region," said Gerber, chairman of the Southeast Delegation.
"Passing this legislation is necessary to balance the budget and fund programs dedicated to helping children and families across the Commonwealth. It is my hope that this legislation will pass the Senate because it would create jobs and provide significant economic development opportunities within Montgomery County," said Taylor.
"The passage of this legislation will have an immediate impact on Norristown and its surrounding communities, leading to substantial investments and hundreds of permanent, family-sustaining jobs," said Bradford.
"This is a critical economic development project for my district and my constituents that will create hundreds of jobs, boost local tourism, help local businesses and provide Upper Merion with significant tax revenue," said Briggs.
