Briggs, Ardmore Initiative to hold 3nd Annual Family GreenFest

HARRISBURG, May 30 – State Rep. Tim Briggs, D-Montgomery, is holding his 3rd Annual Family GreenFest event in collaboration with the Ardmore Initiative from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 10 at Schauffele Plaza, 12 E. Lancaster Ave., Ardmore.

Rain date for the event is Sunday, June 24.

The event will focus on sustainable practices for living green and will provide attendees with the ideas and tools needed to live a more eco-friendly life.

Briggs said this unique annual event brings together local, state and national organizations to offer information about ways residents can save energy and live more sustainably.

The event will also include music courtesy of PhillyMetroDJs.com, a moon bounce, Helmet Safety information provided by Bryn Mawr Hospital, seed giveaways, giveaways for the kids, live animals, ambulance tours and a fire truck. Some of the local groups are providing activities families can participate in such as a “Geopardy Game” presented by Valley Forge Young Friends, or Rain Stick Making by the Clear Air Council.  Families can learn how to make their own compost bin with Lower Merion Environmental Advisory Council or learn how to become a Master Gardener with PSU Extension.

"This is a fun and informative event for the whole family," Briggs said. "We will have useful information for adults on how to live, work and play green, and plenty of fun activities for kids."

On-site recycling will be available as well as small electronics recycling provided by ECOvanta and document shredding services by ProShred.

Briggs has also asked those attending to bring non-perishable food items to drop off for his annual Summer Food Drive.

"In the summer months, food pantry inventories get very low since all of the major food drives occur in the fall and winter,” Briggs said. “We are kicking off my annual Summer Food Drive at this year’s GreenFest so I’m asking everyone to bring items to donate to local food pantries."

Apart from the kickoff at GreenFest, Briggs said there will be drop off locations across the 149th Legislative District throughout the summer months.

"We are hosting even more vendors than in previous years," Briggs said. "I hope to see everyone out in Ardmore on June 10th to gain some valuable information, help out the food drive, and have a great day with the family."

Mercury thermometer and thermostat recycling will also be available. Briggs said each person who recycles a thermometer or a thermostat will receive a $5 Lowes gift card.

Residents seeking more information about the event may contact Briggs' local office at 610-768-3135.

Briggs represents the 149th Legislative District in Montgomery County. For more information, visit www.pahouse.com/Briggs, or get regular updates on Twitter and Facebook.
