Taylor scores three-pointer for Ball-o-Holics

HARRISBURG, June 26 – As teams took to the court for the first time this season, state Rep. Rick Taylor, D-Montgomery, played point guard for the Ball-o-Holics summer basketball league by presenting the Ambler and Lower Gwynnedd operations with a $5,000 state grant for new equipment and team shirts.

Taylor obtained the grant through the Department of Community and Economic Development.

Ball-o-Holics, a summer basketball program for youths and young adults, concentrates on more than just helping participants sink baskets. It also helps them score in life by supplementing on-the-court action with mentoring to promote teamwork, self-discipline, the value of a good education and respect for others.

The growing nonprofit organization has teams playing in Philadelphia and surrounding counties. Players age 7-25 are organized into squads based on their age groups.

"It's a pleasure to be able to help out efforts such as Ball-o-Holics," Taylor said. "Not only does this organization help keep young people occupied with positive, goal-based athletic competition, the coaches also engage them in challenges and communication that will serve them throughout life."
