Proposed addition of BoRit Site to NPL a positive step
HORSHAM, Sept. 3 – State Rep. Rick Taylor, D-Montgomery, was pleased to hear today’s announcement that the BoRit Asbestos Site has been recommended for placement on the Superfund National Priorities List and is taking another large step toward remediation.
"The recommendation of the BoRit site to be placed on the NPL by the Environmental Protection Agency is crucially important for Ambler to move past its legacy of asbestos contamination," Taylor said.
The priorities list is a national list of sites where hazardous contaminants could impact public health and the environment. NPL sites undergo a thorough investigation to determine the full nature and extent of contamination. The EPA or the parties responsible for the contamination then address whatever risks the sites pose to human health and the environment.
"I have worked closely with the community on this issue in advocating that the EPA and Governor Ed Rendell support the site’s placement on the priorities list," Taylor said. "Coupled with my help in securing $5 million for environmentally friendly economic redevelopment projects in Ambler, I am extremely pleased that the community is continuing its momentum toward revitalization."
