Shapiro appointed to White House team

of state legislators for health reform

HARRISBURG, June 18 – State Rep. Josh Shapiro, D-Montgomery, has been selected as one of 32 state legislators nationwide to help President Obama reform health care.

The group of lawmakers, which has been named the "White House Team of State Legislators for Health Reform," met with U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius and White House Office of Health Reform Director Nancy-Ann DeParle at the White House yesterday.

"The need for real health-care reform in our nation is clear," said Shapiro. "I am honored to be a part of this team chosen to help shape national health-care reform. Though our path may be uncertain, there is real hope that progress is now possible. The bottom line for any plan must be to lower costs and improve access."

The group will share best practices and lessons learned from their respective states in an effort to reduce overall cost, preserve choice, and increase access to quality and affordable health-care for all. The team will also solicit input from constituent groups and help to promote health-care reform nationally.

Shapiro represents the 153rd Legislative District in Montgomery County. For more information, visit www.pahouse.com/Shapiro.
