Shapiro appointed chairman of Legislative Audit Advisory Commission

HARRISBURG, Nov. 5 -- Rep. Josh Shapiro was elected chairman of the Legislative Audit Advisory Commission. Commission members elected their chairman in an annual reorganization meeting held in Harrisburg last week.

The commission is made up of eight members. The speaker of the House and Senate president pro tempore appoint four members each: a minority and majority member of their chamber and two public members. House Speaker Dennis O’Brien appointed Shapiro.

“I am proud to not only have been appointed to the Legislative Audit Advisory Commission but also to have been elected chair by commission members. It is a great responsibility and I look forward to using this post to ensure that tax dollars are spent wisely and accounted for using the highest standards,” Shapiro said.

The Legislative Audit Advisory Commission was created in 1970 for the purpose of overseeing, reviewing and reporting on audits performed on the financial affairs of the General Assembly, and making recommendations for improvements. The commission appoints a certified public accountant to audit the financial affairs of the General Assembly and its legislative service agencies. At least one audit is performed each year, with more performed as deemed necessary by the commission.

Shapiro is deputy speaker of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives and represents the 153rd Legislative District in Montgomery County. For more information about Shapiro, please visit www.pahouse.com/Shapiro
