Curry honors local 2008 Problem Solvers state champions

HARRISBURG, June 19 – State Rep. Lawrence Curry, D-Montgomery/Phila., this week honored the Cheltenham High School and Elkins Park Middle School Problem Solvers teams on the floor of the House.

Curry presented a House citation to the Cheltenham High School team for capturing the 2008 state Problem Solvers championship. And he congratulated the Elkins Park Middle School team for finishing fourth out of 70 middle school teams in state competition.

"The Problem Solving Program was developed in 1973 for students in grades four through 12 to teach them how to analyze the challenges in today's world they may face as adults," Curry said. "The program teachers our leaders of tomorrow how to think creatively, brainstorm possible solutions and develop a plan of action."

This year's state competition topic was "Debt in Developing Nations."

Members of the Cheltenham High School Problem Solvers team are: Coach Steve Buckingham, and students Bethanne Goldman, Max Presser, Noah Rush, Marly Siegal and Karen Naseef.
