House adopts Curry resolution honoring Alzheimer’s Association Delaware Valley Chapter for raising Alzheimer’s awareness
HARRISBURG, Oct. 31 – The state House today unanimously adopted H.R. 493, offered by state Rep. Lawrence Curry, D-Montgomery/Phila., honoring the Alzheimer’s Association Delaware Valley Chapter for raising awareness and funding through the Philadelphia Memory Walk 2007 to help those battling Alzheimer’s disease.
The Philadelphia Memory Walk will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 3 at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.
“The Alzheimer’s Memory Walk is the nation’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s disease care, support and research,” Curry said. “This resolution recognizes the staff and volunteers of the Alzheimer’s Association Delaware Chapter, and all those participating and supporting the Philadelphia Memory Walk 2007 for their dedication and enthusiasm in raising awareness and funding to combat Alzheimer’s disease.”
Since it began in 1989, Memory Walk has raised more than $225 million to help people battling Alzheimer’s. Walks are held each year in more than 600 communities across the country.
Alzheimer’s disease is a progressive and fatal brain disease that is the most common form of dementia. It currently has no cure.
More than 4.9 million people 65 or older are living with Alzheimer’s disease. If left unchecked, up to 16 million people could have the disease by 2050. In addition, a growing number of people in their 30s, 40s and 50s will be diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease.
