Local organizations to benefit from McIlvaine Smith’s COLA
HARRISBURG, Dec. 4 – State Rep. Barb McIlvaine Smith, D-Chester, who campaigned on a promise not to take a pay raise while in office, is donating her cost-of-living adjustment to several local nonprofit organizations.
“I wanted to say, ‘Thanks, but no thanks,’ to the cost-of-living adjustment, but found out state law prohibits legislators from selecting their level of compensation so I could not refuse the increase,” McIlvaine Smith said. “Therefore, I am dividing my COLA equally among five local organizations that work hard serving the people of West Chester.”
The following local organizations will each receive $510 from McIlvaine Smith:
Ø Community Volunteers in Medicine
Ø Homeless Single Women’s Task Force
Ø West Chester Public Library
Ø West Chester Area Senior Center
Ø West Chester Head Start
McIlvaine Smith also stated that she will not declare the donations as charitable deductions on her federal income tax return.
