Drucker to host redistricting hearing in Berwyn
HARRISBURG, Jan. 11 – State Rep. Paul Drucker, D-Chester/Montgomery, today said he will host a House Majority Policy Committee public hearing on legislative redistricting at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 28 at the Tredyffrin Township Building, 1100 Duportail Road, Berwyn.
Barry Kauffman of Common Cause and Lora Lavin of the Pennsylvania League of Women Voters are expected to testify at the hearing. State Rep. Babette Josephs, chairwoman of the House State Government Committee, also plans to attend.
Drucker will co-chair the hearing with Policy Committee Chairman Mike Sturla, D-Lancaster.
"I look forward to this opportunity to gain input from local leaders and the public about how to best tackle redistricting reform in Pennsylvania," Drucker said.
Drucker said he has introduced legislation (H.B. 2005) to reform the legislative redistricting process in Pennsylvania.
The bill would change the redistricting process in Pennsylvania by:
· reducing the opportunity for "gerrymandering;"
· ensuring compact and contiguous legislative and congressional districts; and
· providing for competitive elections throughout the state.
The hearing is open to the public. No RSVPs are required. More information on the hearing is available by calling Drucker's office at 610-688-5691.
