Pennsylvania Legislative Black Caucus
holds Black history month celebration at state Capitol
HARRISBURG, March 20 – The members of the Pennsylvania Legislative Black Caucus, chaired by state Rep. Thaddeus Kirkland, D-Delaware, held their 2007 Black History Month celebration at the state Capitol today honoring members of black Greek fraternities and sororities in Pennsylvania.
The celebration today paid tribute to members of black Greek fraternities and sororities over the past 100 years.
Kirkland said the fraternity and sorority members are being recognized because of their determination and accomplishments in today’s black history culture.
“The members of the black Greek letter fraternities and sororities are a living testament to the triumph, determination and struggle that has taken place to raise awareness of the African-American tradition today,” Kirkland said.
House Speaker Dennis O’Brien spoke at the event and paid tribute to the PLBC.
“I salute the PLBC for its strong leadership in the lawmaking process here at the state Capitol,” O’Brien said.
O’Brien also presented a House citation to Reizdan Moore, the first African-American parliamentarian ever to serve the Pennsylvania House, saying, “In this new session of the House, history is being made here in Harrisburg.”
Kirkland said black fraternity and sorority members continue to stand as a reminder of the contributions and achievements that African-Americans have contributed to the nation’s history.
Kirkland represents constituents in the 159th Legislative District which includes parts of Delaware County.
