Legislator organizing effort to get school supplies to needy kids
Distribution will take place Sunday
CHESTER, Aug. 23 – The office of state Rep. Thaddeus Kirkland, D-Delaware, along with the Omni Development Relief Fund, is organizing a distribution of school supplies to needy children in the city of Chester.
“All children should have the opportunity, no matter what their family’s economic situation is, to enter school with the supplies they need to succeed in the classroom,” said Kirkland, who is chairman of the Pennsylvania Legislative Black Caucus. “For many school districts, supplying children with basics like desks and textbooks is difficult enough; the responsibility for making sure children have other supplies like pencils, pens, markers, and notebooks is up to the parents.
“Unfortunately, many families struggling to make ends meet can’t afford to purchase these things,” he said. “Filling in that gap is what this effort is all about.”
Kirkland said thanks to the support of Mike Thevar, CEO of Temp Solutions, and the Omni Development Relief Fund, 60 book bags filled with school supplies will be given away this Sunday to Chester families in need. The families were identified by Kirkland’s office and Community Baptist Church.
The school supply distribution will take place from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 26 at Community Baptist Church, 325 W Seventh St. in Chester, Pa.
MEDIA COVERAGE OF THE EVENT IS INVITED.
“I’d like to thank Mike Thevar and Omni Development Relief Fund for sponsoring this important event and I encourage people in the community to continue to support this and other projects that benefit the needy in our communities in whatever way they can.”
Kirkland said people who want to help support children and other people in the community can lean more by calling Omni Development Relief Fund at 267-718-5022 or e-mailing Odrf.usa@gmail.com.
