House adopts Lentz resolution honoring Pennsylvania military families
HARRISBURG, June 24 – A
resolution (H.R. 335) introduced by state Rep. Bryan R. Lentz, D-Delaware, recognizing June 2009 as
Military Families Month in Pennsylvania was unanimously adopted by the House
today.
"Member of the United States military should always garner the support and
deep respect of Americans, but I feel we don't recognize the deep impact their
service has on their families," Lentz said "These families endure
personal sacrifices and challenges, such as long separations from loved ones
and frequent moves to bases across the country or around the globe. This resolution
honors and recognizes these families for their contributions, as well as those
of their loved ones who willingly sacrifice everyday to defend and serve our
country."
Joining the House members on the floor today were members of Blue Star Families, a nationwide non-partisan organization that aims to connect military families with each other for support and camaraderie.
Lentz added, "Blue Star Families is playing an important role in supporting and building camaraderie among military families, who might have a loved one deployed or are being transferred to a new location. This admirable organization is comprised of members of the military and their families, who know firsthand how to ease the burdens these families are carrying."
Lentz is a U.S. Army veteran, whose military service includes tours as an infantry officer in the 82nd Airborne Division, as well as overseas tours as a reservist in Bosnia and Iraq. He was awarded the Bronze Star for service for duty in Iraq. He is also a graduate of Valley Forge Military College.
