Lentz comments on the election of Dermody to Democratic whip
HARRISBURG, Dec. 17 – State
Rep. Bryan R. Lentz, D-Delaware, today released the following statement
hailing the election of state Rep. Frank Dermody to the position of
Pennsylvania House majority whip:
"I applaud the election of state Representative Frank Dermody as the new Pennsylvania House majority whip. Representative Dermody is an outstanding public servant and former prosecutor who has built a reputation for integrity over his nearly two decades of service in the legislature.
"Representative Dermody stands for reform, and his selection reflects the desire in the Democratic Caucus for a change in direction in Harrisburg. He is an independent legislator who is not afraid to stand up to the status quo.
"The time has come for a fresh start in Harrisburg. Representative Dermody is precisely the kind of dedicated and humble reformer that we need to focus again on representing the people of Pennsylvania and pursuing legislative priorities that focus on jobs, jobs and jobs.
"I have every confidence that Frank will fight for the real reform we need in Harrisburg and continue to serve our caucus and our Commonwealth with honor and integrity. He led the prosecution against former Justice Rolf Larsen, resulting in his removal from office for his gross misuse of power, and will bring that experience to his new job helping to lead our caucus."
Dermody is a graduate of Columbia University
and Indiana University School of Law. He currently serves as chairman of the
House Committee on Urban Affairs and chairman of the Pennsylvania Commission on
Sentencing. He was formerly the district justice of Oakmont-Verona. He lives in
Oakmont with his wife and two children.
