Boyle's office distributes 100th emergency food box
HARRISBURG, March 4 – State Rep. Brendan Boyle, D-Phila./Montgomery, today said his constituent service offices have hit a landmark in providing emergency food boxes to families that have run out of food. Since the program began in August, his two locations at 14230 Bustleton Ave. and 7215 Rising Sun Ave. have handed out 100 of the 30-pound boxes provided by the Philabundance food program.
The "Eboxes" are intended to provide three meals a day for three days for a family of four. They contain staples like hot and cold breakfast cereals, shelf-stable milk, canned fruits and vegetables, canned meat and fish, peanut butter and jelly, and bagged or boxed macaroni and cheese and grains. They also have written information on food agencies that provide long-term assistance.
"My staff and I are glad to be able to
play a part in getting emergency food to people who have
nowhere else to turn," said Boyle. "A qualified family is allotted
one Ebox as a basic nutrition life jacket until they can get in touch with one
of the hundreds of agencies in Philadelphia that assist individuals and
families with food supplies on a regular basis."
More information about the Emergency Food Box program is available at Boyle's offices. The Rising Sun Avenue office can be reached by phone at 215- 342-1700 and the Bustleton Avenue office at 215 676-0300.
