Boyle on the closing of two Catholic high schools in Northeast Phila.
HARRISBURG, Oct. 9 – State Rep. Brendan Boyle, D-Phila., issued the following statement upon learning that the Archdiocese of Philadelphia is planning to close the Cardinal Dougherty High School and the Northeast Catholic High School for Boys:
"I am very saddened and disappointed by the Archdiocese’s decision to close Cardinal Dougherty and North Catholic," said Boyle, a 1995 graduate of Cardinal Dougherty. "These are two great institutions. Combined, they have been responsible for the education of nearly 100,000 people. I know this first-hand, as Cardinal Dougherty played a large role in my education and my life.
"The closing of these two schools will have a disproportionate impact on families in the Northeast. Families from Fox Chase to Frankford will be adversely affected by these closings. I urge the Cardinal to reconsider this decision."
