McGeehan advises seniors: Time running out to file for rebates
HARRISBURG, Dec 14. – State Rep. Michael McGeehan, D-Phila., today reminded seniors that the deadline to claim their Property Tax/Rent Rebate refund for the calendar year 2010 is Dec. 31.
“If you think you may be eligible my office can help you find out,” McGeehan said. "We’ll help you complete and submit the application, and it won’t cost you a thing.”
The program, funded by proceeds from the Pennsylvania Lottery, provides rebates for property taxes or rent payments to eligible seniors 65 or older, widows 50 or older and disabled adults 18 or older.
Eligibility is based on household income, with maximum incomes of $35,000 per year for homeowners and $15,000 for renters, with one half of any social security income counted toward the income limits.
Rebate amounts are based on income levels, with the maximum rebate of $650 available to homeowners and renters earning $8,000 or less. Those earning between $8,001 and $15,000 may qualify for a $500 rebate. There are smaller rebates available for homeowners who earn between $15,001 and $35,000.
More information is available from the Department of Revenue website at http://pa.gov/portal/server.pt/community/individuals/11405.
McGeehan said his constituent services office at 7201 Frankford Avenue in Philadelphia stands ready to help seniors with the process. The phone number is (215) 333-9760.
