Sabatina awards $10,000 grant, is honored at Pegasus Riding Academy
HARRISBURG, Feb. 11 – State Rep. John Sabatina, D-Phila., presented a $10,000 grant he helped secure to the Pegasus Riding Academy at its annual dinner-dance held over the weekend.
The grant, awarded through the state Department of Community and Economic Development, will be used for general expenses.
“Representative Sabatina understands how much our services improve the quality of life for the disabled,” said Barbara Wertheimer, executive director of Pegasus Riding Academy. “This grant will help us continue to provide therapy for residents in Philadelphia and the surrounding area.”
Pegasus Riding Academy has offered equine-assisted therapy for the past 25 years and currently serves approximately 90 children and adults with disabilities each week. Its horses help provide physical and behavioral rehabilitation for people with disabilities. The activities also act as a source of recreation, socialization and self-esteem.
The academy also honored Sabatina for his ongoing support of the program at the event.
“I’ve supported the Pegasus program for years because it offers a unique and effective way for people with disabilities to improve their physical and mental well-being,” Sabatina said. “I’m very proud to be associated with the academy in any way.”
