Sabatina: No methadone clinic in 174th Legislative District
PHILADELPHIA, Feb. 20 – State Rep. John Sabatina, D-Phila., said he is pleased that North East Treatment Centers has withdrawn plans to open and operate a methadone clinic in the 174th Legislative District.
Sabatina, civic leaders, other local elected officials and close to 500 residents of Bustleton attended a meeting at the Anne Frank School last night and expressed their opposition to the proposed clinic at Roosevelt Boulevard and Grant Avenue in Philadelphia.
"One of my priorities as a state legislator is to make sure that the people in my district have their voices heard when it comes to what is placed in their neighborhood, "Sabatina said. "The people spoke loud and clear to the city about their feelings on the location of the methadone clinic."
Sabatina said NET officials needed the community's approval, which was a requirement of the bidding process held by the city's Community Behavioral Health agency.
The methadone clinic would have been open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. seven days a week serving recovering heroin addicts.
Sabatina said city officials instead have agreed to review another possible location for the clinic in Philadelphia.
"The community deserves a lot of credit for standing up for their neighborhood," Sabatina said.
