Sabatina: Resolution honoring Officer Cassidy adopted in House
HARRISBURG, May 5 – State Rep. John Sabatina, D-Phila., said the House of Representatives today adopted a resolution he sponsored to honor a Philadelphia police officer killed in the line of duty.
The condolence resolution (H.R. 519) pays tribute to police officer Charles "Chuck" Cassidy, a 25-year veteran of the Philadelphia police force who was killed in the line of duty. On Oct. 31, 2007, the policeman received a fatal gunshot wound when he walked into a robbery in progress at a store while on patrol.
"We wanted to acknowledge the loss to his family, friends and colleagues, and to let them know that the state of Pennsylvania respects Officer Cassidy’s sacrifice and the many years he spent protecting his fellow citizens," Sabatina said. "He was a well-liked and respected man, and our hearts go out to his wife and children."
Officer Charles Cassidy leaves behind his wife, Judy; his children, Katie, Colby and John; his mother, Mary; other friends and family and his comrades in the 35th Police District.
Sabatina co-sponsored the resolution with House Speaker Dennis O’Brien, R-Phila.
