Sabatina announces deadline extension to apply for
Property Tax/Rent Rebate is now Dec. 31
HARRISBURG, June 26 – State Rep. John Sabatina, D- Phila., is reminding his constituents that the deadline to apply for the state's Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program has been extended to Dec. 31.
Sabatina said the program provides qualifying homeowners and renters with rebates on their 2008 property taxes or rent.
"Senior citizens and other qualifying residents in my district should take advantage of the program and apply soon to get their property tax or rent rebate," Sabatina said.
Sabatina said qualifying applicants can receive a rebate of up to $650 on their property tax or rent paid in 2008. The minimum rebate is $250 for qualifying applicants.
To qualify, homeowners must have a household income of $35,000 per year or less and renters $15,000 per year or less. Homeowners and renters must also be 65 or older, a widow or widower 50 or older, or 18 and permanently disabled.
Only half of an applicant's Social Security or federal railroad retirement income is counted against the income limit. Rebates are based on income and taxes or rent paid.
The Philadelphia legislator said residents who have questions about the program or who need assistance with the application may contact his constituent services office at 215-342-6207 or stop by the office at 8100 Castor Ave.
