Philadelphia City School District to receive $4.5 million
through Classrooms for the Future
HARRISBURG, Aug. 8 – State Rep. John Sabatina, D-Phila., announced today that the Philadelphia City School District will receive $4.5 million through the state's Classrooms for the Future program.
The program provides funding to purchase laptop computers, high-speed Internet access and state-of-the-art software for high school math, science, English and social studies classrooms. It also includes funding for professional development to help train teachers on the equipment. "The equipment students will be using to learn reflects the technology that is widely used in today's workplace," Sabatina said. He said educators who have used the program in their classrooms have reported increased student attendance and participation. The program has reached 350,000 students across the state in its first two years and will place 140,000 laptops in high school classrooms this year.
