O'Brien recognizes Old St. Joseph's Church in House resolution

HARRISBURG, May 9 – The Pennsylvania House of Representatives recently adopted a resolution (H.R. 619) sponsored by state Rep. Mike O'Brien, D-Phila., recognizing the 275th anniversary of the founding of Old St. Joseph's Church and designating the month of May 2008 as Old St. Joseph's Church Month in Pennsylvania.

The church, which is celebrating its anniversary this year, is located at 321 Willings Alley in Philadelphia, just south of Walnut Street between Third and Fourth streets.

Old St. Joseph's Church pastor, the Rev. Mark Horak, S.J., offered the invocation at the opening of House session on Monday, May 5. O'Brien explained the history of the church and its significance to Philadelphians of all faiths, including its inspiration for religious freedom and its dedication to helping the poor, before House lawmakers unanimously adopted his resolution (H.R. 619).
