Cruz: House adopts resolution to honor fallen firefighter
Measure urges Philadelphia City Council to name park after firefighter Eric Casiano
HARRISBURG, Jan. 17 -- State Rep. Angel Cruz, D-Phila., announced that the state House of Representatives has adopted a resolution he introduced (H.R. 557) that urges Philadelphia City Council to name the park at Fourth and York streets after firefighter Eric Casiano, who lost his life in the line of duty while fighting a fire at 2240 Orianna St. on May 3, 1999.
Cruz said naming the park at Fourth and York streets for Casiano would be a fitting tribute to the firefighter’s bravery and sacrifice since the park is located across the street from the fire that cost him his life.
“Mr. Casiano gave his life protecting the people of Philadelphia, displaying ultimate courage and paying the ultimate price," Cruz said. "His family has been forever affected by his tragic death and I believe renaming the park at Fourth and York in memory of Eric would act as a sobering reminder of the sacrifices firefighters make each and every day to protect this great city.”
Cruz said the resolution was adopted by the House 193-0.
