Cruz releases statement on Ackerman's departure
from the School District of Philadelphia
HARRISBURG, Aug. 23 – State Rep. Angel Cruz, D-Phila., released the following statement regarding confirmation that Arlene Ackerman will not continue as superintendent of the School District of Philadelphia:
"I applaud Mayor Nutter and the School Reform Commission for their decision to bring about change to the School District of Philadelphia and starting a search for a new superintendent. I, along with other legislators advocated for this change.
"It is our job as legislators to fight for and to protect the constituency we represent. I hope that this year will be the beginning of a brighter future and better education for the children in the school district. Most importantly, I hope this will ensure that all Philadelphia public school students in the school district will receive a fair and thorough education."
