Urban Affairs Committee to hold informational meeting on land banking
HARRISBURG, March 8 – State Rep. W. Curtis Thomas, chairman of the House Urban Affairs Committee, said the committee will hold an information meeting on land banking at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 11 in Room G-50 of the Irvis Office Building, Harrisburg.
Land banks are public entities created to efficiently acquire, hold, manage and develop underutilized or tax-foreclosed properties.
The committee will be briefed by Dan Kildee, president of the Center for Land Reform. Kildee, the former treasurer of Genesee County (city of Flint), Michigan, founded Michigan's first land bank and has become a national expert on land banks. The Center for Land Reform, a nonprofit organization based in Washington, D. C., focuses on the issue of vacant and abandoned property in urban areas.
