Thomas announces more than $2 million in state funding for local project
HARRISBURG, July 21 – State Rep. W. Curtis Thomas, D-Phila., said the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority is awarding a $2.4 million low-interest loan to the city of Philadelphia to plant trees around recreation centers and neighborhood parks.
"This project will not only create aesthetic benefits for city residents, but will also create a safer clean-air environment," Thomas said.
Thomas said the trees are being planted to prevent storm water runoff that results in smog that could cause asthma and other respiratory illnesses.
This project is expected to create 80 construction-related jobs.
Pennvest funds sewer, storm water and drinking water projects throughout the state. These projects contribute to improving Pennsylvania's environment and the health of residents, as well as provide opportunities for economic growth and jobs for Pennsylvania's workers.
