Josephs, LGBT Equality Caucus to push for state inheritance tax exemption for domestic partners Wednesday

HARRISBURG, May 22 – State Rep. Babette Josephs, D-Phila., will hold a Capitol news conference Wednesday to push for consideration of her bill that would add domestic partners to the list of those who are exempt from paying state inheritance taxes.

The news conference on H.B. 1828 will be at 11 a.m. May 23 in the Capitol Media Center.

Also attending will be Rep. Dan Frankel, co-chairman of the LGBT Equality Caucus; David Jacobs, a Philadelphian in a same-sex domestic partnership who wrote to Josephs expressing his concern about the inheritance tax; Ted Martin, Equality PA executive director; and other supporters of the legislation.

Currently, only spouses and parents of children younger than 21 are exempt from paying inheritance taxes on property bequeathed them, but a domestic partner bequeathed property by his or her partner is subjected to a 15 percent inheritance tax.

Media coverage is invited.
