Josephs sets record straight on bonus legislation

HARRISBURG, July 11 – State Rep. Babette Josephs, D-Phila., chairwoman of the House State Government Committee, today issued the following statement in response to a press release from state Sen. John Eichelberger:

"The Auditor General's Office did not support Senator Eichelberger's bonus legislation as drafted to address concerns involving the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency, and the senator and his office know that. As the senator has expressed to me during our conversations, the target of his legislation was PHEAA. My staff and I have met directly with the senator to try to negotiate an amendment.

"It's incredible the senator would criticize me when we have engaged in a cooperative process with him.

"House Majority Leader Bill DeWeese and I and the House Democratic Caucus are committed to reforming the system, building on the reforms the House and Leader DeWeese have already brought about."
