Donatucci to build on progress at helm of liquor control panel
HARRISBURG, Jan. 9 – State Rep. Robert Donatucci, D-Phila./Delaware, has been reappointed chairman of the House Liquor Control Committee for the 2009-10 legislative term.
First elected to the House in 1980, Donatucci was appointed as chairman of the committee in 1993, became minority chairman in 1995, and became majority chairman again in 2007.
Donatucci said he will continue to build on the progress in making state stores much more consumer- friendly and work to resolve issues such as direct shipments of wine from vintners to consumers and employing the most effective tactics to reduce underage access to alcohol. During his time on the committee, Donatucci has been a strong advocate of providing citizens with legal processes to challenge nuisance licensed establishments that have an adverse impact on their neighborhoods.
"I'm proud that the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board, in addition to meeting its own expenses, continues to turn over millions of dollars annually to the state General Fund," Donatucci said.
"We have also made great strides to ensure that citizens have opportunities for an increased voice in the issuance of licenses and renewals for establishments in their neighborhoods. The goals are to continue our progress in this area and to make further improvements to programs to keep alcohol out of the hands of minors."
His overall priorities as a legislator in the new term will be dealing with the impact of the national recession on Pennsylvania while continuing to provide essential programs and services to taxpayers with the greatest possible efficiency.
