Donatucci hosting free shredding event June 2 to prevent identity theft

 

PHILADELPHIA, May 21 – State Rep. Maria P. Donatucci, D-Phila., is hosting a free shredding event for the community to destroy unneeded confidential documents.

 

Donatucci is offering two shredding locations and times on Saturday, June 2:

·       9 a.m. to noon at Donatucci's constituent service office, 2115 Oregon Ave. in Philadelphia

·       1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Mercy Wellness Center, 2821 Island Ave., in Philadelphia

 

"Identity theft can destroy a person's life and one of the simplest things you can do to protect yourself from being a victim is shred documents with sensitive personal information," Donatucci said. "Even if you have a personal shredder, the commercial shredders at this event will allow you to easily and quickly shred large amounts of documents that you may have accumulated."

 

The shredding service will be done by Philadelphia-based Shred-It.

 

Attendees should bring a valid proof of residence in the form of an ID or utility bill, and any documents that contain personal information, including Social Security numbers, credit card numbers and bank account numbers, such as:

·       Credit card statements

·       Credit card applications

·       Bank statements

·       Canceled checks

·       Income tax information

·       Insurance records/information, including medical

·       Retirement/pension fund Information.

 

Attendees are limited to two boxes or bags per household. Please remove staples, paper clips and any non-paper items.
