Johnson to host policy hearing on childhood obesity
HARRISBURG, March 15 – State Rep. Kenyatta Johnson, D-Phila., will host a House Majority Policy Committee hearing on childhood obesity from 10 a.m. to noon Thursday, April 8 at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing, Claire M. Fagin Hall, Room 216, 418 Curie Blvd., Philadelphia.
Johnson said the purpose of the hearing is to engage legislators, health organizations and academic experts on the issue of childhood obesity and how to further prevent this growing epidemic.
A strong supporter of First Lady Michele Obama's "Let's Move" initiative, Johnson said he understands the positive impact healthy eating and exercise can have on the overall development of children and adolescents.
"Childhood obesity is having a detrimental effect on the future of our
children," he said. "If it's not addressed today, we could very well
be facing a sickly and grim tomorrow."
