James presents $110,000 in grants to community organizations
PHILADELPHIA, March 28 – State Rep. Harold James, D-Phila., today awarded $110,000 in grants to 20 community organizations at a special meeting of the Point Breeze Community Network at the Dixon House, 1920 S. 20th St.
James said the programs aided by the grants include emergency services, day camps, food programs, scholarships, performing arts, computer training, youth programs, and after-school and community programs.
"I'm honored to award these grants to our community-based organizations. They are vital to local residents," James said. "These grants help them to carry on their good work right here and improve the quality of life in the community."
James said the House of Representative's Legislative Initiative Program funded the grants, which ranged from $500 to $10,000, and were distributed through The Greater Philadelphia Urban Affairs Coalition.
The following groups received grants during the presentation:
- 1st African Community Development - $5,000
- American Legion Henry Hill Post 385 - $2,500
- Christian Street YMCA - $5,000, $10,000
- Community Day Camp - $500
- Destiny Services - $5,000
- Diversified Community Services - $7,500, $500
- Jayhawks Youth Association - $2,500
- Sheriff’s Prayer Breakfast - $1,500
- Point Breeze Performing Arts Center - $10,000
- Tasker Street Baptist Church Community Outreach Corp. - $5,000
- South Philadelphia Block Association - $5,000
- Ducky Birts Foundation - $5,000
- The Wellness of You Inc. - $5,000
- Scottish Rite Tenant Council - $5,000
- Point Breeze Community Network - $5,000
- South Philadelphia Homes Inc. - $5,000
- Victim/Witness Services of South Philadelphia - $5,000
- Urban Youth Association - $5,000
- Resources 4 You - $5,000
- Point Breeze Business Association - $5,000
- Brown's ShopRite Inc. - $5,000
The Point Breeze Community Network is a consortium of community-based organizations that meet monthly to exchange ideas and resources.
