James announces $20,000 in community grants

 

PHILADELPHIA, April 21 – State Rep. Harold James, D-Phila., recently awarded $20,000 in grants to six community organizations at a special meeting of the Point Breeze Community Network at 1427 Catherine St.

 

James said the money from these grants will fund a variety food and recreation programs as well as senior activities and tutoring and after-school programs.

 

"I'm excited to again honor our local organizations in the form of these grants," said James. "The programs they run are immeasurable to our community."

 

James said the House of Representatives’ community revitalization grant funds were distributed through The Greater Philadelphia Urban Affairs Coalition. Last month the program awarded $110,000 to 20 other community organizations.

 

The organizations awarded these grants were:

-          National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives (NOBLE) - $5,000

-          Lincoln Post 89  - $5,000

-          Marian Anderson Recreation Center Boxing (Savior Program) - $3,500

-          Mt. Zion Fellowship Community Outreach Corp. - $2,500

-          Wilson Park Tenant Council - $4,000

 

The Point Breeze Community Network is a consortium of community-based organizations that meets monthly to exchange ideas and resources.
