Johnson hosts Mother's Day Senior Ball

PHILADELPHIA, May 9 – State Rep. Kenyatta Johnson recently wrapped up his three-month series of senior brunches with his second Mother's Day Senior Ball.

Johnson said the event, which was held at the St. Charles Senior Center April 7, aims to celebrate seniors, promote healthy eating habits and encourage activity to support longevity.

According to the U.S. National Library of Medicine, although seniors are living longer and healthier lives, they still require the resources and information to help them sustain a healthy lifestyle.

Johnson said he hosted the senior brunch series as a way to promote healthy living in the senior community.

"It's inevitable that as we age our bodies begin to change," Johnson said. "It's important that seniors understand these changes and how to remain healthy throughout those changes."

Johnson said close to 100 seniors attended the event dressed in their finest and ready for a day of entertainment and dancing. In addition to enjoying a three-course meal, seniors were entertained by local poet K.T. Terry and enjoyed music from Ty Entertainment.
