Lowery Brown: There's still time to submit LIHEAP documentation
HARRISBURG, March 2 – State Rep. Vanessa Lowery Brown, D-Phila., said people who have applied for an energy assistance cash grant under the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program but have failed to file supporting documents and meet the state-imposed deadline to provide them can still submit the paperwork to reactivate their application.
Lowery Brown said residents can send their paperwork for cash grants to the Cash Assistance Office at the LIHEAP Program Office, 1348 Sedgley Ave., Philadelphia, or drop their documents off at any Philadelphia County Assistance Office. She said the office will accept the paperwork and reactivate the application.
Cash grants are expected to average $326 this winter. The cash grant program runs through April 2. The federally funded program helps income-eligible households pay for heat during the winter months and is administered by the state Department of Public Welfare. A family of four with an annual income of up to $33,075 can qualify for this assistance.
Lowery Brown also said residents who already received a cash grant but have received a termination of service notice or are out of fuel can apply for a crisis grant by calling the Cash Assistance Office at 215-560-1583.
Also, people who have not already received a cash grant and want to apply for a LIHEAP crisis grant can obtain an application from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays at the LIHEAP Program Office, 1348 Sedgley Ave., Philadelphia, Lowery Brown said.
