Blackwell office reopens following firebombing
PHILADELPHIA, Oct. 30 – State Rep. Tommy Blackwell, D-Phila., today said his
constituent service office at 101 N. 52nd St. is back in operation, five weeks
after it was firebombed.
Repairs are complete and the staff has returned after operating temporarily out of his North Philadelphia office on West Berks St reet since the Sept. 14 early-morning blaze.
Investigators say the fire began when someone broke the office door and windows, dumped flammable liquid inside and ignited it.
Blackwell credited Philadelphia firefighters for responding quickly and getting the flames under control, preventing things from worsening beyond the considerable heat, smoke and water damage done to the office.
“We’re completely up to speed,” said Blackwell. “From that perspective, it’s as if nothing happened.
“The arsonist inconvenienced us and a number of my constituents, but he didn’t accomplish his goal. We’re back and we’re not intimidated.”
