Brown: Know your HIV status

HARRISBURG, Nov. 15 – State Rep. Vanessa Lowery Brown will be hosting an HIV testing clinic from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18 at her constituent services office at 1435 N. 52^nd St., Philadelphia.

Brown’s office will be working with the locally based group, Bebashi, who will be conducting the free, confidential screenings.

Preliminary results will be available in about 20 minutes.

“Knowing your HIV status is more important than ever, since so many treatment options are available for keeping the virus in check. It is no longer a death sentence, unless it goes untreated,” Brown said.

Bebashi was founded in 1985 in response to increasing incidences of HIV/AIDS in the urban community of Philadelphia, at a time when there were no HIV/AIDS educational programs or services targeting the African-American and other communities of color.
