PLBC creates bipartisan effort to provide relief for Haiti

 

HARRISBURG, Jan. 27 –The Pennsylvania Legislative Black Caucus discussed its efforts to help provide relief to Haiti earthquake victims at a Capitol news conference this week.  

 

Since the news of the earthquake was first reported, PLBC members, have been working to put together a bipartisan effort of collecting medical supplies and other needed goods to help the Haiti victims. They are also seeking medical professionals to travel to the earthquake-ravaged country.

 

In a reference to the earthquake, PLBC chairman, state Rep. Ronald Waters, D-Phila./Delaware, said, "This natural disaster has had a catastrophic effect on the people of Haiti. However, the efforts of emergency responders, relief workers, volunteers, the military, and government are testimony to the innate goodness of Americans and people worldwide."  

 

The PLBC has asked Pennsylvanians to collaborate with them and help the people of Haiti meet some urgent needs of daily life by donating some of the following items:
 

·         Latex exam gloves, surgical gloves, sterile needles, sterile and unsterile dressings

·         Bandage scissors, surgical instruments, surgical blades and handles, surgical sponges

·         Cotton-tipped applicators, gowns and bed linen, cloth bath towels, wash cloths

·         Lubricating jelly, disinfectant sponges and swabs, lemon juice, Tylenol

·         First-aid kits, cooking and eating utensils, buckets, bedding, school supplies, medicines

 

Joining the PLBC at the news conference were the Philadelphia Haitian Coalition and Young Haitian Professionals.
