PLBC continues forums on inclusive use of federal stimulus funds
NORRISTOWN, May 28 – The Pennsylvania Legislative Black Caucus held its sixth forum last week aimed at helping minority, women and disadvantaged business owners learn how they can access a share of federal stimulus funding.
The forum was held May 22 in the George Washington Carver Center in Norristown. Representatives from various state agencies attended to provide information on how to access business opportunities connected to state and local projects that will receive funding from the federal stimulus package.
Joining PLBC Chairman Ronald G. Waters, D-Delaware/Phila., at the Norristown seminar were Pearl Smith of the Norristown Area School District; Norristown council member Linda Christian; Norristown council member David Hodo; state Rep. Vanessa Lowery Brown, D-Phila.; state Rep. Matthew Bradford, D-Montgomery; and state Rep. Kenyatta Johnson, D-Phila.
"We wanted to present our concrete plan to help rebuild women, minority and disadvantaged businesses," Bradford said. "The community needs to know that jobs will be created."
"I was happy to see that the PLBC is involved in my community," said Paul Ginyard, who attended the forum. "The speakers were excellent and knowledgeable on the material and patient with our questions."
Dwayne Royster agreed. He also attended the forum to learn more about the federal funding Pennsylvania is receiving, how it will be used, and how minority-owned, women-owned and disadvantaged-owned businesses may be able to benefit.
"It was a great opportunity to learn what’s available," Royster said. "Hopefully, we’ll see job creation in our community to meet community needs."
