Liquor legislation introduced by Waters passes House
Bill would require completion of Responsible Alcohol Management Program
HARRISBURG, June 26 – The House of Representatives Tuesday passed legislation introduced by state Rep. Ronald Waters, D-Phila./Delaware, that would help keep alcohol out of the wrong hands.
Waters’ legislation (H.B. 606) would require managers at restaurants, eating places, retail dispensers, hotel clubs and liquor distributor licensees to complete the Responsible Alcohol Management Program manager/owner training offered by the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board. An employee would have 180 days from his or her appointment as a manager to comply with the RAMP training requirement.
“I’m glad to see this legislation was endorsed by fellow members of the House,” Waters said. “It is one more step in the battle to ensure that alcohol is properly served and kept out of the hands of minors and already intoxicated persons.”
Other RAMP training opportunities include new employee orientation, training for alcohol service personnel and the displaying of responsible alcohol service signage.
“RAMP is currently a voluntary program, and it is important that we require managers to be trained and aware of Pennsylvania’s liquor service laws so their staff can follow suit,” Waters said.
The bill passed by a vote of 188 -12 and now moves on to the Senate for consideration.
