Waters to hold energy conservation workshop Friday

PHILADELPHIA, Nov. 29 -- State Rep. Ronald G. Waters, D-Phila./Delaware, along with Creating A Village, will host an Energy Conservation Workshop from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30 at Compassion CDC, 6150 Cedar Ave. in Philadelphia

“The purpose of the workshop is to help my constituents learn how to save money by saving energy,” Waters said. “It will give participants a ‘hands-on’ basic understanding of the best and most cost-effective ways to reduce their energy usage.”

In addition, trainers will demonstrate how to install self-help weatherization materials and provide a few materials free of charge to all who attend.

“It’s important for people to understand why they should conserve energy for reasons like household finances and environmental impact,” Waters said. “Plus, there are many health- and safety-related issues folks need to be aware of when it comes to energy use in the home.”

The workshop is “hands-on” and will focus primarily on how to save energy by:

·         caulking air leakage sites;

·         using expanding foam insulation;

·         installing rope caulk, plastic storm windows, weather stripping, V-seal and other basic weatherization materials;

·         switching to compact fluorescent lamps;

·         installing and programming a clock thermostat;

·         selecting a qualified contractor for the work people may not be able to do themselves.
