“The workshop was a total success,” Waters said. “The people who came learned how to save money simply by employing some basic energy-saving tips.”

The event demonstrated how to install self-help weatherization materials and a professional there helped answer questions. The bonus for attending was a free starter kit of materials.

The hands-on workshop focused primarily on how to save energy by:

·         caulking air leakage sites;

·         using expanding foam insulation;

·         installing rope caulk, plastic storm windows, weather stripping, V-seal and other basic weatherization materials;

·         switching to compact fluorescent lamps;

·         installing and programming a clock thermostat;

·         selecting a qualified contractor for the work people may not be able to do themselves.

In addition, Khalil Walker, program director of the Philadelphia Housing Association, was there to inform Waters’ constituents about some valuable information regarding programs that assist low-and moderate-income families gain and maintain decent, affordable housing.

“The turnout was impressive, and it was an opportunity to remind folks about the many services my office provides,” Waters said. “The event offered some great advice, there was a lot of participation, and everyone left happy that they attended.”
