Bishop participates in Philadelphia Mayor's cleanup day
HARRISBURG, April 9 – State Rep. Louise Bishop, D-Phila., in conjunction with Mayor Michael Nutter's Philly cleanup program, recently organized a successful community cleanup effort in the 192nd Legislative District.
Bishop said local businesses and more than 50 neighborhood volunteers from the Overbrook Elementary School, Tustin Neighborhood Advisory Council and members of the Lancaster Avenue Redevelopment Corp. helped to spruce up and keep their streets clean in the Lancaster Avenue, Overbrook and West Philadelphia sections of the city.
"Our volunteers worked tirelessly to clean the streets and improve the quality of life in our community, "Bishop said.
Bishop said volunteers removed litter from streets, historical sites, school yards and surrounding areas along the north and south sides of Lancaster Avenue between 59th and 63rd streets at Woodbine to Lancaster on 63rd Street. The city provided gloves, brooms, trash bags and recycling bags to volunteers in the cleanup effort.
Philadelphia Councilman Curtis Jones joined Bishop for the event.
Bishop said volunteers were given identifying wrist bands to gain admittance to the post-cleanup volunteer appreciation barbeque hosted by members of the Philadelphia Eagles football team at Lincoln Financial field.
