Bishop reviewing testimony from children and youth community meeting
PHILADELPHIA, Oct. 13 – State Rep. Louise Williams Bishop, D-Phila., said that she and the members of the House Children and Youth Committee are thoroughly reviewing recommendations that were made by a panel of school officials and children-and-youth advocates at the first community meeting in a series of three on children and youth issues.
In an effort to develop legislation on children and youth issues, Bishop, chairwoman of the House Children and Youth Committee, said she is holding the series of meetings in the 192nd Legislative District to gather public input. She said many members of the community attended the first meeting in Philadelphia.
"Some of the issues presenters focused on included how people can get involved in school issues, the implementation of youth programs and more funding for programs in recreational centers," Bishop said.
Presenters who discussed children-and-youth issues included various members of the community.
Bishop said two additional community meetings are planned for Thursday, Oct. 22 at the African Episcopal Church of St. Thomas, 6361 Lancaster Ave.; and Wednesday, Oct. 28 at St. Barbara's Catholic Church, 5359 Lebanon Ave.
Both meetings will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and are open to the public.
