Manderino announces $1.7 million local tourism grant
HARRISBURG, Jan. 16 – State Rep. Kathy Manderino, D-Phila./Montgomery, announced that the Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau will receive $1.7 million through Gov. Ed Rendell’s investment in Pennsylvania’s tourism agencies.
The bureau is one of 49 agencies statewide that received aid through a $10.6 million appropriation for state tourism agencies to develop promotional materials, advertisements and other marketing activities to increase tourism in Pennsylvania.
“Philadelphia thrives on revenue from tourism,” Manderino said. “With this funding, the city will be able to improve its efforts to market our exciting area to travelers.”
Pennsylvania is the fifth-most-visited state in the country, with an estimated 138 million visitors annually. Travelers to Pennsylvania spent about $27 billion in 2006, including nearly $19.1 billion by leisure visitors on transportation, food, hotel rooms, shopping, entertainment and other items.
