Oliver sworn in for 17th term in Pa. House

HARRISBURG, Jan. 2 -- State Rep. Frank Oliver today renewed his oath of office as a legislator for the 195^th Legislative District.

Oliver has held the seat since 1973. While committee assignments have not yet been announced for the new session, Oliver is hopeful that he will be appointed chairman of the House Health and Human Services Committee. He has been Democratic chairman of the committee for the last 11 years.

"In the last two years, we've been successful in improving the lives of residents across the state in several areas, with an increase in the minimum wage and expansion of the state's Children's Health Insurance Program so that more children will be covered," Oliver said. "Now we need to focus on continuing those quality-of-life efforts and ensuring that everyone has access to health-care coverage."

Oliver took part in swearing-in ceremonies to mark the opening of the 191^st session of the General Assembly.
